Where and What is Bridge Street?

Bridge Street is arguably the biggest tourist attraction in Bradenton Beach, the southernmost community on Anna Maria Island. You’ll truly find everything you could ask for here: there are delicious restaurants, quaint shops and boutiques, various events like farmers’ markets held throughout the year, and immediate access to the beach! Best of all, the free Anna Maria Island trolley makes a stop right nearby, so you can easily reach Bridge Street no matter where you’re staying on the island.

What is the Historic Bridge Street Pier?

One of the main things to see while you’re in this area is the Bridge Street Pier on Anna Maria Island. Back in 1921, the Cortez Bridge was built, serving as a vital connection between AMI and the nearby Village of Cortez. Before the bridge, travelers could only get between the two destinations by boat. When the drawbridge opened in 1967, there was no more need for the Cortez Bridge, and the half closest to the Village of Cortez was removed. The Bradenton Beach side though remained, and it’s now the Historic Bridge Street Pier!

This Anna Maria Island pier is an excellent destination for fishing, as anglers, both new and experienced can come to cast their line right into the water below. Of course, if you’re not interested in fishing, you can still come down to the pier to watch others try for the big catch or to simply enjoy the ocean breeze and watch the waves roll in. (This is a particularly great spot to watch the sunset!)
