The history of Anna Maria Island is actually quite fascinating, but its beaches are what keep people coming every year! However, there are also lots of Anna Maria Island attractions that keep people entertained while they are here, and one of our personal favorites is the Mote Marine Lab.

What is the Mote Marine Lab and Where is it?
The Mote Marine Lab, located in Sarasota, Florida, is an incredible research facility that focuses on creating better environments for everyone, starting from the bodies of water around the globe.
Their incredible team of scientists and researchers work independently in a non-profit marine research institution where they are committed to the belief that the conservation and sustainable use of our oceans begins with research and education.
However, they are more than just marine wildlife, they have branched off into other aspects of sciences, including human cancer studies utilizing their findings with marine models, and are also focused on many other projects dealing with the ocean systems around the world.
Programs, Experiences, and General Info
They have a wide variety of programs, experiences, and incredible opportunities that you can take part in while you are staying on Anna Maria Island. If you think that marine biology is something you might be interested in then perhaps you would like to join the research team on their morning rounds, going to various research areas around the ecosystems near the lab and helping monitor some of the species that the lab deals with. Of, maybe you’re interested in getting up close and personal with a shark in your very own Shark Encounter? If you are looking for something a little less thrill-seeking they also have breakfast programs, and estuary exploration programs that you can partake in.
It is located at 1600 Ken Thompson Pkwy and is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission prices vary. Adults (13 & older) are $24 while youth (ages 3-12) are $18 and children (ages 0-2) are free.

Is it Family Friendly?
The Mote Marine Lab is dedicated to knowledge and understanding of our ecosystems and ocean systems, and they cater these experiences to all age groups. It is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding family things to do in Anna Maria Island. If you are looking for somewhere that would be perfect for the entire family then this is the place for sure. They even have birthday party programs in place for the kids, allowing them some hands-on experiences while they enjoy their visit.
