Bradenton Beach
Area Information
The City of Bradenton Beach is located at the southernmost end of Anna Maria Island. While Bradenton Beach is by far the narrowest part of the island and at times is less than one block wide, the activities and action of this vibrant city are boundless. Many restaurants and shops await you.
Coquina Beach at the very south end of Bradenton Beach is a wide, tree lined public facility featuring numerous picnic tables, outside showers and public restrooms. White sandy beaches and emerald green waters lure beachcombers to spend the day in the sun.
Many fishing piers and marinas can be found in Bradenton Beach. At the end of Bridge Street, you’ll find the Bradenton Beach City Pier which is historically the end of the original bridge coming onto the island. Boat ramps can be located at Bay Side Park at the southern tip of the city.
At the south end of Bradenton Beach you’ll find the bridge to Longboat Key, our neighboring island to the south. The bridge offers easy access to Sarasota, Lido Key, Sand Key and St. Armand’s circle.
Reminiscent of days gone by, Bradenton Beach features many quaint shops and galleries, featuring the work of local artists.
Scuba divers have for years explored the site of the tanker Regina that sank 75 yards off of Bradenton Beach close to fifty years ago. This site has been a popular destination for divers since that time.
The beauty of Anna Maria Island has brought the movie industry here on numerous occasions. “On an Island with you” was filmed in 1948 with Esther Williams, Peter Lawford, Ricardo Montalban, Jimmy Durante, Cyd Charisse and Xavier Cugat. In 1998, Woody Harrelson and Elisabeth Shue came to the island to film “Palmetto”. Also around this time, Denzel Washington and George Clooney came to film “The Perfect Storm”.
Bradenton Beach is currently home to around 1700 full time residents while many more visit seasonally to enjoy the charm of this “Old Florida” town.
